It was last week that banners with written threats against the artist appeared in Tijuana.

"This is for Peso Pluma, refrain from attending on October 14, as it will be your last show due to your disrespect and unbridled tongue," the banners read, signed by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which is based in Pluma's hometown.

On Wednesday, the record company announced that Peso Pluma is canceling their concert.

"Our goal is to protect fans and teams. For the safety of everyone involved, we will be canceling our show in Tijuana," the record label wrote on Instagram.

Stories of the drug trade

Peso Pluma has in a short time become a world artist. The summer was marked globally by "Ella baila sola" by Eslabón Armado and Peso Pluma.

He is one of the biggest artists in the growing genre "corridos tumbados", which takes inspiration from hip hop and reggaeton as well as traditional Mexican songs.

In his lyrics, he often sings stories about the Mexican drug trade.
