Shipments of "Kyo Tango pears" produced in northern Kyoto Prefecture have begun, and the first auction was held at the wholesale market in Kyoto City on the 29th.

"Kyotango pear" is a pear grown in Kumihama Town and Amino Town in Kyotango City, and is characterized by a good balance of sweetness and acidity.

This year's harvest began on August 8, and the first auction was held at the Kyoto City Central Wholesale Market in Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto City from 23 a.m. on August 29.

Boxes containing 6 kg were lined up, and when the auctioneer called out, the vendor indicated the price with his finger and auctioned it off, and each box was traded for 10,1 yen to 4500,6500 yen.

Pears that meet certain conditions, such as a sugar content of over 11.5 degrees Celsius, are selected as "Kyoto brand products" certified by Kyoto Prefecture and other organizations, and are sold in Kyoto and Osaka, and are also exported to Taiwan and Vietnam.

Takaaki Hatanaka, chairman of the Kyoto Tango Pear Production Council, which produces pears, said, "We had a hard time cultivating pears this year because there was little rain and it was extremely hot.

Shipments of "Kyotango pears" will continue until late September.
