A holiday plane from Hamburg did not reach its destination Ibiza due to severe storms and had to switch to Alicante. Eurowings flight EW7514 with 174 passengers was unable to land on the Balearic island on Sunday and was dodged to Alicante after "a few holding patterns", the company told the dpa news agency on Tuesday.

RTL and the "Bild" newspaper had previously reported on dramatic minutes on board the Airbus, citing passenger statements. Eurowings emphasized that there was "no danger at any time". It was not an emergency landing, but an "alternative landing".

Eva Benetatou, who became known through TV reality shows such as "The Bachelor", had commented on the flight on Instagram on Monday afternoon. She was afraid for her life and the life of her two-year-old son, Benetatou described.

According to Eurowings, an onward flight was no longer possible in the course of Sunday, the travelers were accommodated in hotels and flown to Ibiza on Monday. After landing in Alicante, the Airbus was "subjected to a visual inspection by technicians from the outside due to the weather conditions flown through". A lightning strike was not confirmed.

A severe storm on Mallorca and partly also on other Balearic Islands had recently caused chaos in air traffic. Some flights had to be cancelled or diverted.
