After a fall, pop star Elton John has spent a night in the hospital. "We can confirm that Elton went to the local hospital as a precaution after a slip yesterday at his home in southern France," the British news agency PA quoted a spokesman for the 76-year-old as saying on Monday. "After a check-up, he was immediately discharged this morning and is now back home and in good health."
Previously, the British tabloid »Sun« had reported that the incident had occurred in a villa of the musician in Nice, where Sir Elton John was on holiday with husband David Furnish and their two sons. The singer suffered minor injuries. The treatment took place in the orthopedic department of the Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco.
Almost five years on a farewell tour
In July, Elton John ended his multi-year farewell tour and gave what may be his last tour concert in Stockholm. The 76-year-old played many of his world hits such as "Rocket Man", "I'm Still Standing", "Crocodile Rock" – and of course "Candle in the Wind".
Elton John had already heralded the farewell tour in September 2018. Since then, it has been interrupted again and again, partly because of the corona pandemic. In total, the Briton played over 300 concerts in the USA, Europe and Australia. With the concert tour, he had broken several records – both in terms of length and revenue. According to the BBC, ticket sales brought in the equivalent of almost 816 million euros.
Elton John had announced that he wanted to cut back after the tour in order to spend more time with his husband David Furnish and their two sons. "I've had the most wonderful career," he said in Stockholm during his encore, before concluding the performance with the song "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road."
