A babysitter was sentenced to ten years in prison and preventive detention on Tuesday in Cologne for serious child sexual abuse. This means that the 34-year-old will not be released after serving his prison sentence, but will be sent to a correctional facility.

The Cologne District Court found the defendant guilty, among other things, of multiple counts of serious child sexual abuse and the production and possession of child pornography. Between autumn 2019 and May 2022, the court was convinced that the man had inflicted serious sexual violence on a total of 22 children between the ages of one and six. Among them was a severely disabled girl.

The defendant filmed or photographed a large number of the crimes. According to the verdict, the crime scenes were the 34-year-old's home, but also care facilities where he worked as a temporary worker. In addition, there have been sexual assaults in changing rooms of public swimming pools and in the homes of the parents of the victims.

The defendant had made a full confession in the trial. "After initial tactics and lies, you have described here what actually happened," the presiding judge said to his credit. The verdict is not final, an appeal can be filed.
