A plastic doll that has come to life will soon knock a sorcerer's apprentice off its throne. As reported by US industry publications, »Barbie« will overtake the last part of the »Harry Potter« film series next weekend, making it the most internationally successful film from the Warner Bros. studio.

So far, »Barbie« has grossed 1.34 billion dollars worldwide, so »Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2« is currently only two million dollars in the lead. "Barbie" will easily close this gap in the course of this week.

In mid-August, »Barbie« had already overtaken the comic book adaptation »The Dark Knight« and had become Warner Bros.'s most successful film in the USA. And it doesn't look like the immense success is slowing down at the moment.

In many countries, »Barbie« is still in the top ten of the charts, including Germany. The film is also expected to top the world's best annual charts. It is already in 2nd place, and the previous leader "The Super Mario Bros. Movie", which grossed almost 1.36 billion dollars, is already in sight.

And then? The next record within reach would be the crown for the most successful film ever directed by a woman. So far, this title belongs to the Disney animated film »Frozen 2«, which Jennifer Lee co-directed with Chris Buck.

The film grossed $1.43 billion internationally. However, Greta Gerwig is already the director of the most successful film directed by a woman with »Barbie« – apart from the genre of animated film.
