Course coordinator Elly McCausland, who works as a research assistant at the university, is herself a true fan of Taylor Swift's music.

"I want to show the students that if older literature seems inaccessible, it can be good to look at it from a different perspective. Shakespeare, in a way, addressed a lot of the issues that Taylor Swift deals with in her songs today," she told The Guardian.

But the Belgian course is not the first of its kind. Last year, the Clive Davis Institute at New York University was the first to launch a course on Taylor Swift. It has been followed by several courses at various American universities, writes The Guardian.
