Ligue 1: Nigerian Akor Adams, already in the spotlight with Montpellier

Fourth recruit of Montpellier this season, Akor Adams has already been talked about a week after his arrival. The Nigerian striker from Lillestrom (Norwegian 1st division) distinguished himself against Le Havre on the first day of Ligue 1 (Sunday, August 13). Starting at the kick-off, he scored a resounding double with a powerful header (58th), and a cross from the left (60th). The two teams left on a draw (2-2).

A player with a very athletic profile

Adams was recruited by Montpellier to compensate for the transfer of Stephy Mavididi to Leicester, relegated to the Championship (English 2nd division), seven years after his title. "I have a very good feeling when I arrive here. I think I'm coming to the right place, at the right time to take a step," he told the club's website at the time of his signing.

The 23-year-old centre-forward was particularly effective in his second season at Lillestrom, where he scored 15 goals in as many Norwegian first division games. This Nigerian striker, with a very athletic profile (1.90 m, 90 kg), arrived in Norway in 2018, with the second division club Sogndal, before joining Lillestrom three years later.

I knew that when I arrived in Montpellier, I was not going to start from scratch and that my integration would go well knowing what I can do and what the club expects of me," he said during his presentation. He added: "I haven't seen many games but I can imagine that he is very physical, there are a lot of Africans in Ligue 1. I think he is also very technical given the quality of the French players. It's up to me to adapt as quickly as possible."

On Saturday, August 19, Akor Adams will be on the pitch of Olympique Lyonnais for his second meeting in the France Championship. Will he confirm his debut with fanfare with the Hérault jersey on his shoulders?
