There has been a major power outage in parts of Brazil. The exact extent is still unclear. The Reuters news agency reports, citing the network operator Operador Nacional do Sistema Elétrico (ONS), that three "regions" of the South American country are affected. The news portal »G1« writes of 18 affected states, including Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Minas Gerais.

So far, nothing is known about the cause. ONS reports an "incident" that is still being investigated. They are working to restore power to the north, northeast and southeast of Latin America's largest country.

In the major cities, according to reports, some of the metros were evacuated, traffic lights failed.
