The attack on Egyptian parliamentarian Ahmed Tantawi sparked controversy among social media users, as he clashed with him in the Sayeda Zeinab Mosque in Cairo, and there was an attempt to get him out of it.

Shabakat 2023/8/15 Follow the details of the attack on Tantawi, who is known to state agencies as an opponent of the government, and is more known to Egyptians as a whole in parliament, "I do not like the president, and I do not trust his performance."

It is noteworthy that months ago, Tantawi announced his intention to run for the upcoming presidential elections, and began his election campaign with tours in the provinces, and the presence in places where people gather, like any ordinary candidate.

Last Friday, he led prayers at the Sayeda Zeinab Mosque in central Cairo, and after the prayer, a number of citizens gathered around him, including a person trying to clash with him, and remove him from the mosque. The video went viral, and many believed that the assailant was a police secretary, informant, or security officer.

But after the rumor spread that the person with the great mustache was a security officer, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior responded by saying that the allegation that a security member assaulted a person inside the Sayyeda Zeinab Mosque is not true, explaining that the truth of the incident is that an administrative security member tried to distract worshipers after the completion of prayers, to prevent crowding in accordance with the established procedures.

The tweeters pointed out that the Ministry of Interior did not mention in its response the name of the person attacked, nor his capacity as a former parliamentarian or party leader, and only described him as a person.

Wide interaction

In the comments of activists, the tweeter Farouk commented, sarcastically: "I mean, he cursed all the worshipers and caught in Ahmed Tantawi, is the one who blocked the door of the mosque means? This is even high, you are a government, you have some justifications."

Activist Hamada Gouda had a different opinion, writing: "This is a mosque. His respect. Gatherings, photography and speech will be the righteousness of the mosque. And the security personnel all that asked him to go out to complete what they did is righteous. The right thing was Mr. Tantawi responding from the beginning and coming out, and he saved us."

For his part, the tweeter Mohamed Abu Omar, to not mention the name of Tantawi and his recipe, and said: "Interior statement on the infringement of Ahmed Tantawi that a member of the security to infringe on one of the people means not a presidential candidate? You hurt someone."

Tweeter Hussein Shafei commented, saying: "Who said that the man Alshanab great member of the National Security Hammam, who expelled Ahmed Tantawi from the mosque wrong? Ahmed Tantawi is wrong because he will pray in a famous mosque"!

For his part, wrote activist Abu Rakan tweet, in which he said: "Ahmed Tantawi is a hero of paper, although we accept that it is not compars, but unfortunately it is taken by the masses of people and their hopes and opposition cover protection and propaganda for him, and this is not enough nor effective, but the expressions of Wsha are all defeatist, and calm is misplaced."

It is noteworthy that the current presidential term ends on the first of next April, and the elections are supposed to be held within at least 120 days before this date, and Tantawi has submitted yesterday to the Supreme Election Authority in Egypt a petition, including several demands to ensure the integrity of the upcoming electoral process.
