Stomach flu, heat wave and an approaching tropical storm meant that the scouts, over 40,000 from over 150 different countries, had to evacuate from the area on Monday.

The youngsters reunited on Friday at Seoul World Cup Stadium for a closing concert, where Ive, NewJeans, NCT Dream, ITZY and Mamamoo – some of K-pop's biggest acts – performed.

It is interpreted as an attempt by the government to compensate for the unlucky camp.

The Proposal: Reunite BTS

A politician from the conservative ruling party suggested this week that K-pop's biggest act, BTS, should reunite and perform at the Jamboree concert. This is to "raise the status of the nation" and for "the participants to leave the country with positive memories", as he wrote on Facebook.

Two of the seven BTS members are currently on mandatory duty and an exemption for conducting a gig is controversial.

Many fans were critical on social media, saying that they exploit the artists and act like they are the property of the state, writes The Korea Times.

The Ministry of Culture has instead distributed BTS trading cards provided by the music company, of a total value of SEK 6.5 million, according to the news agency AFP.

Criticism of how the concert was conducted

Several of the artists who performed at the concert were originally booked for the popular music program "Music bank", whose television broadcast was suddenly canceled without warning. Now industry members are speculating that the government may have exerted pressure on the TV channel, to free up the biggest pop stars for the jamboree concert.

Due to weather conditions, the venue of the concert was changed twice. And the rapid changes have been controversial.

Around a thousand government employees have been brought into service to help organise the last-minute concert. It has caused unions to rage. "It's like being drafted into wartime," the Korean financial industry union said.
