In November, members of the "Last Generation" glued themselves to the tarmacs of the capital's airport, now they are supposed to pay for it. The Federal Police is demanding a total of 1060 euros from the climate activists for their deployment.

The demand is directed against six people who are said to have been involved in the climate group's action on November 24, 2022, a spokeswoman for the Federal Police Directorate said. Previously, the »Berliner Zeitung« had reported. Four cases are being enforced, the spokeswoman said. However, two activists had appealed against the decision.

The action had paralyzed flight operations at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport for almost two hours. According to the Federal Police at the time, several people gained access to the airport grounds. Some of them would have stuck to the ground. The group itself said at the time that some activists had ridden bicycles across the site.

Berlin Airport halted operations on both runways. After the action, the police took several people into custody. It will be reported because of dangerous interference with air traffic, trespassing and damage to property, it was said by the police headquarters Brandenburg. How many police forces were deployed at the time, the Federal Police did not say.

The blockade in November 2022 was not the only action of the last generation at BER. On December 8, 2022, some activists again managed to get into the cordoned-off area of the airport to protest for more political action against the climate crisis. Unlike the previous action, flight operations were not affected, the Federal Police said at the time. The demonstrators did not succeed in getting to the tarmac. In May 2023, climate protesters were able to invade the site again and sprayed paint on a private plane.
