Climate activists have stopped shipping traffic on the Rhine near Basel. The Swiss police observed the action to ensure that no one was harmed, a spokesman for the cantonal police told the Swiss news agency Keystone-SDA.

According to the report, around ten people were involved in the protests against the transport of fuel on the Rhine. According to Keystone-SDA, six of them abseiled down from the Dreirosenbrücke in the center of Basel in the morning and attached a banner with the inscription "Freedom of movement for people instead of oil tankers" as well as a stop signal, as the site 20 Minuten reports.
