The highway and smiling people have particularly taken a liking to the New Zealand-Australian Oscar winner Russell Crowe ("Gladiator") in Germany. At the end of a short visit to Germany, the 59-year-old tweeted on Monday: "What I love about Germany: 1. The highway 2. A lot of smiles, many English speakers."

In third place on his personal hit list: the landscape between the cities with its rolling hills. In addition, he had experienced architectural surprises everywhere. And finally, he is astonished by the fact that "the beer halls are full of Germans and not just tourists".

Crowe assured: "I will definitely find the time to come back, there is so much to discover here," and he added in German: "Goodbye everyone. Bye!«

"Where am I now?"

Germany is part of his trip to Europe. On Twitter, Crowe kept asking his followers, "Where am I now?" To this end, he posted photos of Cologne Cathedral or the Palace of Justice in Nuremberg, where the trials of war criminals of the Nazi regime had taken place.

In Cologne, the actor also visited a brewery and listened to the musician Björn Heuser, who is best known for his sing-along concerts. Apparently from Munich's Hofbräuhaus, Crowe posted photos showing him with musicians in a band – combined with the question: "Do you know the accordion player or anyone else in this band? They wanted a photo, but I had to go..."

The appeal seems to have been successful. Helmut Schranner wrote under the entry: "Thank you very much," he wrote, "I got the photo. Many greetings from Helmut Schranner and his Holledauer Musikanten«.
