In response to a series of troubles related to My Number Cards, in June 2023, the government established the My Number Information Inspection Headquarters, a cross-ministerial and cross-agency headquarters headed by Digital Minister Kono, to identify operational issues and consider measures to prevent recurrence.

In the general inspection, we confirm that the information is accurately linked to My Number for 6 items such as tax, health insurance card, and resident card information that can be viewed on the Myna Portal, a dedicated website for those who have obtained a My Number Card.

To date, the government has surveyed local governments, health insurance societies, and other organizations that link information to how they obtain users' My Numbers when linking them, and how many types of information such as name, date of birth, and address were used to check My Numbers when matching their personal information.

In addition, in cases where there is concern about the problems indicated in this interim report, such as when collating and linking with a small number of types of information, all data will be inspected to correct incorrect information, and information leaks will be investigated to see if information leakage has occurred, and will be announced by autumn 29.

In addition, in order to prevent recurrence, in addition to requiring the entry of My Number when applying for a new health insurance card, the government will consider establishing a system for mechanically collating data.

Prime Minister Kishida: "Working to restore public trust"

At a meeting of the My Number Information Inspection Headquarters, Prime Minister Kishida said, "We take seriously the fact that a series of cases of mistakes in linking have been confirmed and are causing anxiety, and the government as a whole needs to work to restore public trust in the My Number system. I hope that the government, local governments, and related organizations will work together to make every effort so that the public can transition to a digital society with peace of mind."
