Chugoku Electric Power intends to conduct a study in Kamiseki Town, Yamaguchi Prefecture, for the construction of an "interim storage facility" to temporarily store used nuclear fuel at nuclear power plants. In response to this, an all-hands meeting of the town council was held on the 8th, and the town explained the contents of the proposed survey.

On August 8, Chugoku Electric Power Co. announced its intention to conduct a survey on the premises of Chugoku Electric Power in Kamiseki Town for the construction of an "interim storage facility" to temporarily store spent nuclear fuel, and in response to this, an all-hands meeting of the town council was held behind closed doors on August 2.

According to Mayor Tetsuo Nishi, who spoke to the press after the meeting, the town explained to the council members the contents of the investigation for the construction of an interim storage facility proposed by Chugoku Electric Power Co. at the full council meeting.

In response, some council members expressed the opinion that a briefing session should be held for residents, and the town conveyed its intention to consider it in the future.

In addition, one of the council members who participated in the all-hands council expressed his hope that "accepting the survey of the interim storage facility will secure the town's financial resources and improve resident services, which will lead to population growth."

On the other hand, another council member criticized, "I think there is a lack of explanation to the townspeople, and it is an act of treachery to decide the town's policy at the council in the absence of the townspeople."

The town will convene an extraordinary council meeting to decide whether to accept Chugoku Electric Power's proposal.
