In Hiroshima City, the making of bon lanterns for graves is at its peak during the Obon festival in August.

A "bon lantern" is a lantern about the height of a person with brightly colored paper such as red, green, and yellow stretched over the framework of a six-sided bamboo, and it is customary to offer it to graves around Hiroshima City.

At a flower shop in Naka-ku, Hiroshima City, bon lanterns began making around March, and this is the busiest time of the year, producing about 3 lanterns a day.

This flower shop has been making bon lanterns for about 1 years, and will produce about 50,30 bon lanterns by the time of the festival.

Tada Tazuko, the representative of the flower shop, said, "We make it beautifully so that people who visit graves can visit comfortably."
