A video circulating of the killing of a young Moroccan man after a skirmish that ended in a gruesome vehicular attack in the garage of a restaurant in Casablanca has sparked widespread condemnation on social media.

The video, which was documented by a surveillance camera in the garage of a fast food restaurant in the Ain Diab area of Casablanca, showed the young man Badr Bouljuahel receiving a strong blow to the head, after which he fell to the ground.

Not only did the attacker, who remains unidentified and nicknamed by Moroccans Ould Fachouche (spoiled boy), but he went to his car, removed its license plate to conceal his identity, ran over Buljuahel twice and then ran away.

Badr Buljuahel is a 23-year-old Moroccan who was studying for a doctorate before he was killed in this gruesome incident, and media reports said that the reason for the skirmishes was that he had previously defended a girl after being harassed by the attacker.

In a video clip monitored by Shabakat episode on (2023/8/3) – Badr's sister talked about the details of what happened in the garage, and how Badr paid with his life for his magnanimity.

Another video showed his mother crying about her deep pain at the separation of her son, whom she did not expect to end so hard at the hands of "a foolish person, who does not know God."

For its part, the General Directorate of National Security said that a person was arrested in the city of Laayoune, on suspicion of being "the main person involved in causing the death of a person after deliberately hitting him with a car in the garage of a fast food restaurant in Casablanca".

Law of the jungle

Shabakat monitored part of the Moroccans' reaction to the incident, including what Abdel Jalil tweeted: "The children of Fashoush Lee Kishoa (those who see) that their parents' money and their (parents) relations (that they have) see them (see that) they are above the law, even if they apply the law of the jungle. And here is a special issue of public opinion. A special person who takes (it is necessary to take) the right of this young man from Ould Al-Fashoush."

Yassin Karimi wrote, "We do not want this tragic incident to go unnoticed and forgotten, what happened to Dr. Badr may happen to anyone from this people," while Anas said, "May God have mercy on Badr. A successful effort in quickly stopping the killer and those who help him. We hope he gets severe punishment."

As for Zakia Benabid, she wrote: "We hope that this (in this) poor country takes (they are taken) their right, because we are really tired of this class defect to Gadi that drags us (which will drag us) to the ominous consequences, and the pressure is like generating the explosion, the land for all and the air for all, and no one is above the law."

Moroccan law stipulates that the penalty for premeditated murder in Morocco is life imprisonment, and in some cases the penalty is increased to the death penalty of the perpetrator.
