In June, three members of the Asahi University Rugby Club in Mizuho City, Gifu Prefecture, were arrested by the police on suspicion of selling cannabis to office workers they came into contact with through SNS. Police are investigating the route of obtaining cannabis.

Three people were arrested: Hitonari Takauchi (3), Yuto Ieno (20), and Yoshihei Mogi (20), all third-year students at Asahi University.

According to the police, the three are suspected of violating the Cannabis Control Law in June this year for selling cannabis to a 20-year-old office worker who contacted them through SNS in Mizuho City.

As police investigated the employee, it was discovered that he was suspected of purchasing marijuana from three people, and one of them was also arrested last month on suspicion of trying to take cannabis from someone.

Police have not confirmed the identities of the three men.

Police will investigate the route of obtaining cannabis in detail in the future.

According to the university, after receiving information that a rugby club member was smoking cannabis, he consulted the police, and the police have searched the rugby club's training camp several times so far.

The rugby club has been suspended indefinitely since the 3th of last month, and the university has set up an investigation committee on campus to investigate the circumstances so far.

Asahi University President Katsuyuki Otomo commented, "The university takes this very seriously and deeply apologizes, and we will promptly confirm the facts and take strict action."

Asahi University student: "I've heard rumors of cannabis"

Asahi University, where the student was arrested, issued a notice on the 2nd to warn students during summer vacation not to get involved in illegal drugs such as cannabis.

A 21-year-old male student at Asahi University said, "I had heard rumors that there were people who were using cannabis on campus. I think it's important to refuse a recommendation once and for all."

Another 20-year-old male student said, "It's simply sad and unfortunate to think that my university's reputation will be damaged.
