At least 13 people were injured: In an attack in South Korea, a man attacked passers-by with a car and a stabbing weapon.

He first steered his car onto a sidewalk near a subway station in the city of Seongnam, south of Seoul, and swept away and injured several pedestrians. This was reported by South Korean broadcasters and the national news agency Yonhap on Thursday, citing eyewitnesses and the police.

He then got out and walked in the direction of a department store, where he stabbed people indiscriminately with a knife. The condition of the injured was initially unclear.

Motive initially unclear

The suspect was reportedly arrested about ten minutes after the first emergency calls in the late afternoon (local time). The authorities spoke of only one suspect. The motives for his behavior were not initially known.

The news channel YTN showed images from inside the department store, in which a man with a dark hood attacked people with a suspected knife. According to Yonhap, the suspect is between 20 and 30 years old. At least nine people were injured by the attacker with the knife and four other people were hit by him.

The incident occurred just about two weeks after a man stabbed four pedestrians in the capital, Seoul. According to police, one of the pedestrians was killed.
