Amid the serious labor shortage, a visit was held at Narita Airport to deepen the understanding of airport work by teachers in charge of career guidance at high schools in order to secure human resources in the aviation industry.

The visit was held for the first time by Narita Airport Company to help solve the labor shortage at the airport, and was attended by about 30 people, including teachers in charge of career guidance at high schools in Chiba and Ibaraki prefectures.

In the airline industry, due to a decrease in demand due to the new coronavirus, there have been a series of turnovers, and in particular, the number of "ground handling" workers who load and unload luggage on aircraft has decreased by about 4% nationwide compared to four years ago.

At the inspection meeting, after the faculty members observed the ground handling work, a roundtable discussion was held with the person in charge of the handling company, and questions were asked about the detailed work contents.

At Narita Airport, a new runway will be built in six years, and a significant increase in passengers is expected, so there is an urgent need to secure human resources.

A teacher who participated said, "I didn't have an image of airport work, but I felt close to it when I saw how luggage was loaded, and I want to tell the students that there is also such a job."

Tomoshi Dan, Manager of the Airline Sales Department at Narita Airport Company, said, "We would like people to recognize the appeal and reward of the airline industry, which will lead to an increase in the number of human resources working at Narita Airport in the future."
