Its design emanates South (thus, in capital letters) on all four sides. From the orange trees that dot the gardens immersed between fountains, palm trees and sun loungers to the façade of the main building, printed in white, like those beautiful Andalusian villages straddling the sea and the mountains full of whitewashed houses and charming streets. For something the Higuerón Hotel Curio by Hilton is located on the Costa del Sol, at the foot of the mountain of Benalmádena and just half an hour from Marbella.

It is the privileged location of this five-star hotel configured as an oasis overlooking the sea in which to disconnect from everything. Contributing to this objective is the aforementioned southern atmosphere full of open and diaphanous spaces, spurting luminosity, seven swimming pools (one of them heated), infinite terraces, chill-out areas, live music sessions, eight gastronomic spaces and lush vegetation that emerges in every corner. Not surprisingly, where today stands this idyllic enclave before there was a plantation of fig trees. Hence its name.

Even so, the Higuerón Resort complex is not only formed by the hotel, but it is an exclusive urbanization that also has a sports club, wellness and spa area, gym, tennis, paddle and volleyball courts and a beach club (services that guests can enjoy), as well as luxury residences available to live or rent.

Andalusian inspiration

For now, we return to the hotel, which not only boasts avant-garde design inspired by Andalusia both in the common areas and in the 290 rooms and suites, characterized by the use of noble and natural materials such as oak or chestnut wood, esparto or cork, so from the South. The Higuerón team is also proud to have hosted characters such as Cristiano Ronaldo or Jennifer Lopez, who chose this resort for their stay on the Costa del Sol.

Of course, the jewel in the crown is, however, the collection of 400 works of art that houses the hotel, a figure that has nothing to envy to that of the main museums in the region. Moreover, we are facing an authentic hotel-museum with pieces by renowned artists such as the Galician sculptor Francisco Leiro, National Prize for Visual Arts, linked to the Marlborough gallery in New York since the 80s and one of the greatest exponents of the technique of carving.

As an example of his work, El Moscón in the exterior lobby that welcomes guests stands out, a polychrome wood work with a Picasso air that aims to be an allegory of human vulnerability and fragility. The sculptor also signs Sayón 1 and Sayón 2, two figures 120 meters high that focus the attention of the new Torre Leiro of the hotel, named in his honor.

The exhibition of works continues with those of artists such as Gerard Mas, Paco Pepe Posada, Pablo Rodríguez Guy, Lila Calabut, specialized in oil on canvas and the graffiti artist Darko, a reference in his field. It would be necessary to mention the lithographs of Antoni Tàpies or Enrique Brinkmann, a regular at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in New York or the Albertina in Vienna. Anyone who wants to know the complete list can sign up for the guided tours organized by the hotel through the facilities in English and Spanish.

Tailor-made experiences

But the Higuerón Hotel Curio by Hilton does not live only in art. Also of exclusivity and tailor-made plans. Hence the commitment to the personalization of services through its Leiro Experience, an "ode to life" for those staying at the Leiro Tower and the star proposal of this season according to the new director of Higuerón Resort, Mónica Sánchez. Guests of the Leiro Suites will have private check-in and priority use of Balinese beds in the infinity pool overlooking the sea (the only one for adults only in the place), as well as a sun care set.

The preference is also guaranteed in the reservations for the beach club, the boats of the company De Antonio Yatchs, with skipper included, or the Sollo restaurant, holder of a Michelin star and another Green, granted for its level of sustainability, in addition to two Repsol suns. It is directed by the Brazilian Diego Gallegos, known as the chef of caviar, since the organic Andalusian sturgeon is the star product of his cuisine, based on "a multicultural vision and respect for the environment", as he points out.

Diego Gallegos, the caviar chef.

In fact, he even has his own fish farm where he carries out his research work on aquaponics, the system that combines traditional aquaculture, or aquatic animal husbandry, with hydroponics, the cultivation of plants in water. "Everything we serve on the plate comes from what we produce, we want to be one hundred percent sustainable," he adds.

Gallegos is also responsible for the menu of the bistro bar Arará, which surprises with a menu that mixes Latin American flavors with Spanish. Examples: seafood aguachile, miso feather with creamy potatoes or menière salmon with trout roe. Then there would be the MED restaurant, where the full breakfast buffet is served in the morning, while for lunch and dinner it offers a fresh Mediterranean menu. La Higuerita, with its healthy menus, would be missing. The experience is completed with a signature cocktail on the terrace of the infinity pool or the beach club. To the taste of the consumer.
