Quanzhou, July 7 (Wu Guanbiao, Gao Yifan) On July 25, the 25 Quanzhou World Heritage Day and UNESCO's "New Voice of Ancient House" pilot activity were launched in Quanzhou, Fujian, the "World Heritage City", helping Quanzhou build a model city for the protection and utilization of World Heritage and enhance Quanzhou's influence in the protection and utilization of World Heritage sites.

On July 2021, 7, "Quanzhou: The World Marine Trade Center of Song and Yuan China" was inscribed on the World Heritage List, becoming China's 25th World Heritage Site and one of the few city-type world cultural heritages.

On the occasion of the second anniversary of Quanzhou's successful inscription, Xia Zehan, Director of UNESCO's Multisectoral Regional Office for East Asia, announced in a video message that the World Heritage Site "Quanzhou: The World Ocean Trade Center of Song and Yuan China" has been selected as the fifth pilot site for sustainable livelihood activities of UNESCO's "Conservation and Management of World Heritage Sites in China" project.

"The 'Quanzhou: World Ocean Trade Center of Song and Yuan China' project consists of 22 representative monuments and sites and their associated environments and spaces, of which architectural heritage is an important part of the outstanding universal value of this site." Architectural heritage plays an important role in building inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and human settlements and is a key goal of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Charzehan said.

Therefore, this new pilot activity is named "New Voice of Ancient House", which will select the world-class intangible cultural heritage - traditional Fujian residential construction skills as the focus of the project, in order to explore new horizons of heritage protection, and further promote sustainable development through the basic investigation of traditional Fujian residential construction skills, holding a series of activities on the protection and inheritance of traditional Fujian traditional residential building skills, and compiling a series of teaching materials for traditional Fujian residential building skills.

Xia Zehan said that UNESCO will work with the Palace Museum and Quanzhou to carry out the protection of architectural heritage, bringing together stakeholders in East and Southeast Asia through the common link of traditional architecture and intangible cultural heritage. Quanzhou will also become an important partner for the second Sino-German cultural exchange led by UNESCO next year. "We hope that through heritage education, more young people can have a deeper understanding of each other's heritage values."
