An international conference on the theme of "Web3," which is attracting attention as a next-generation network to replace the current Internet, has begun in Tokyo, and companies and government officials from Japan and abroad are discussing the future potential.

Web3 is a new network concept based on blockchain technology, known for DeFi = decentralized finance that exchanges currencies in a digital space without going through banks or companies, and NFTs,

a technology that proves that it is original.

It is attracting attention as an alternative to the current Internet, where giant IT companies hold a great influence, and about 25 people including IT companies and government officials from around the world are participating in the international conference held in Tokyo from the 250th.

Daniel Alegre, CEO of Yuga Lab, the world's largest studio of NFT art, who spoke with METI officials on the theme of utilizing Web3, pointed out that Web3, which allows Japan companies that are not good at entering the global market, can freely communicate without relying on countries or platforms.

In addition, Sota Watanabe, a young entrepreneur in Japan who develops applications using blockchain technology, called for the importance of major domestic companies joining hands in the new field of Web30 and demonstrating their presence in the Japan global market amid what is said to be the lost 3 years due to the stagnation of the Japan economy.

Mr. Watanabe said, "There are many issues such as regulations, but I would like to involve large companies well and create tools and environments that users can benefit from without being aware of it."
