Since Friday, Hollywood actors have joined the writers' strike, which began in early May. An absence of professionals that has serious consequences on the sector: the shooting of dozens of films and series are at a standstill. Highly anticipated productions, such as Avatar, Emily in Paris or Stranger Things, are concerned.

The worst paralysis of the film industry in nearly 60 years. While Hollywood screenwriters had been on strike for more than two months, they were joined last Friday by the actors. All are demanding better remuneration, and are also asking for guarantees regarding the use of artificial intelligence. Without these two trades, Hollywood studios can no longer operate and the filming of many productions is completely stopped.

Films and series produced by Disney, Sony, Universal but also those from streaming platforms such as Netflix, Apple TV+ or Amazon Prime Video are concerned. A delay in filming that will affect the release dates of feature films and highly anticipated programs.

The release of the next three Avatars delayed by a year

According to the American magazine The Hollywood Reporter, the filming of Deadpool 3, Gladiator 2, the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, second part of Mission: Impossible, Dead Reckoning, Venom 3, are officially stopped. Beetlejuice 2, the second installment of Tim Burton's cult film, is also on hiatus.

Many film releases have also been delayed, especially on the side of Disney, as explained by The Washington Post. The next three installments of James Cameron's Avatar will all be released a year late, in 2025, 2029 and 2031 for the latest installment. Several Marvel Studios films will also arrive later than expected in theaters: this is the case of Captain America: Brave New World and the next two Avengers.

Filming of Emily in Paris, Stranger Things and Euphoria at a standstill

The small screen is also concerned by the strike and it will be necessary to wait to find some highly anticipated series. The filming of several successful Netflix programs is delayed: this is the case of season 3 of Emily in Paris, but also the final season of Stranger Things.

Similarly, season 3 of Euphoria is not expected to arrive on HBO until 2025, as confirmed by the network's director of drama series to Deadline. Are concerned season 2 of The Last of Us, as well as season 3 of The White Lotus. Production of the animated series Family Guy and American Dad! is also suspended. On the Disney side, the series of the Star Wars universe The Mandalorian and Andor are also on pause.

Film promotion disrupted

In addition to filming and production release dates, the strike also has consequences for the promotion of films and series. Last Thursday, even before the actors' strike was announced, the cast of Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, which includes Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr, Emily Blunt and Cillian Murphy, left the premiere in London before the screening of the feature film. On the red carpet, actress Emily Blunt explained that the film crew wanted to show their support for the strikers. The promotion of the films Barbie, Greta Gerwig, or the new Disney film, The Haunted Mansion, is also disrupted by the absence of actors.
