The Israeli army announced on Monday (July 3rd) that it was striking targets in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin as part of a "vast anti-terrorist operation".

"One citizen was killed and another seriously wounded in the shelling in the (Israeli)-occupied area of Jenin," the Palestinian health ministry said. The IDF said its forces were targeting "a terrorist infrastructure" in the Jenin area.

The IDF said its forces struck a "joint operations center" that it said served as the command center for the "Jenin Brigade," a local militant group.

The northern West Bank city of Jenin and the adjacent refugee camp are regularly the scene of clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians.

The Israeli army regularly carries out raids in the area, which is nominally under the control of the Palestinian Authority, presided over by Mahmoud Abbas.
