Recently, in Wanzhou, Chongqing, which is located in the heart of the Three Gorges reservoir area, the beautiful scenery of the Yangtze River, which is "one river, clear water, and green mountains on both sides of the river," makes people linger. On the river, Jian Waterfall, a retired fisherman, led two fishermen to patrol the river in boats to combat illegal fishing and protect fish in the Yangtze River.

Jian Waterfall was born in Wanzhou, Chongqing, and his family has been fishing for generations. After graduating from college, he started a fishing gear business. With the advancement of the ban on fishing in the Yangtze River, Jian Waterfall felt that business would be greatly restricted. As an angler, he also felt firsthand that there are fewer and fewer fish in the Yangtze River. Later, when the local fishermen were recruited, Jian Waterfall signed up, and he wanted to do something for the protection of the Yangtze River. Jian Waterfall started as a member of the patrol team, and because of his outstanding performance, he began to serve as the captain of the Wanzhou Fishing Guard Team in July 2021.

I officially joined the company on November 2020, 11, and until July 1, I have been working at the main city fishing protection point in (Wanzhou). By July (2021), perhaps more responsible for my work, the leader of the detachment changed my position to the captain of the fishing protection team and further served the fishing ban.

Jian Waterfall said that before the establishment of the fishing protection team, illegal fishing was rampant in the local area. Under the severe crackdown of fishery administration, public security and other departments, as well as the patrol of fishery protection teams, illegal fishing began to slowly improve.

At that time, illegal fishing was in an endless stream, and those who put nets and burned fish were electric fish. It feels like we're from a casual angler, and we feel that this fish is getting harder and harder to catch.

【Commentary】Like Jian Waterfall, Xiong Yao's ancestors have also lived by fishing for generations. As an old fisherman, he has personally experienced the process of changing the fish of the Yangtze River from more to less. Xiong Yaoyuan joined the fishing team, in addition to finding a job, he also hoped that there would be more fish in the Yangtze River.

My ancestors have been fishing for generations, and before there were two fish, but slowly, the fish became less and less, and the fishery resources were close to exhaustion. After entering the convoy, we patrol every day, by driving boats or walking on shore. Through these two or three years, fishery resources have increased significantly.

Jian Falls said that after joining the fishing team, he often "caught" some illegal fishing friends, so he offended many people. Although she lost some friends, Jian Falls felt that she had gained a lot. While patrolling, he could clearly feel that the fish population in the Yangtze River was recovering.

After the fishing ban, fishery resources have improved significantly in the past three years. When we are usually on patrol, we can see groups of fish swimming along the river, with significantly larger individuals and significantly more species.

In order to better protect the fishery resources of the Yangtze River, Chongqing Wanzhou gives full play to the advantages of retired fishermen who are familiar with the water environment, and actively guides the majority of fishermen to participate in the protection of fishery resources. The Wanzhou District Agricultural Comprehensive Administrative Law Enforcement Detachment led the establishment of a fishing protection team, and 20 fishery guards squatted 24 hours a day to guard the Yangtze River for more than 80 kilometers of water, serving as the "guardian saint" of the Yangtze River fishery resources.

Since the ban on fishing in the Yangtze River, our Wanzhou District fishery administration joint market supervision, public security and other departments have stepped up their crackdown. In recent years, the fishing ban order in Wanzhou has improved significantly, the diversity of fishery resources has been significantly restored, the number of fish stocks has increased significantly, and the fishing ban in Wanzhou has achieved obvious results.
