Australian scientists have discovered that the poison of a dangerous spider may help treat patients with stroke.

According to the BBC, biochemists have found that this poison gives better chances of survival.

Scientists say the spider web poison, a deadly spiders found on the Australian island of Fraser, contains a molecule that helps stop the impact of stroke on the brain.

According to Professor Glen King of the University of Queensland, the new drug can be used by medics easily within minutes to protect the brain.

At present, stroke can only be effectively started after the patient has been hospitalized.
