The outage of Redsys services for the second time in less than a week has put not only financial institutions, but also the Government and the Bank of Spain on alert. Both the Ministry of Economic Affairs, led by Nadia Calviño, and the banking supervisor have asked the platform for explanations for the failures that have knocked down card and Bizum transactions that depend on it for hours.

The latest incident took place last night, when many businesses had already inaugurated the Black Friday digital campaign that takes place this Friday. The previous one occurred last Saturday, around noon, and then both physical store commerce and e-commerce were affected. The extent of the impact of both outages and the extent of the number of operations that ceased to occur, as well as the causes of the outages, are unknown.

"

There is no open file, but we have requested detailed information from the company since last weekend's incident occurred, in accordance with established frameworks, and the measures being taken by Redsys are being closely monitored. Logically, this follow-up is also being carried out with the new incident that occurred yesterday," the Bank of Spain said in response to questions from EL MUNDO.

The First Vice-Presidency also confirms that they are following up on what happened and that there is some concern about the subsequent falls.

All indications suggest that last Saturday there was an operational failure in the operation of the platform and not a cyberattack, but both the Ministry and the Bank of Spain are waiting for the explanations that the company may give. The same goes for the entities, which trust that Redsys will issue some official explanation of what happened in the coming hours or days.

Meanwhile, consumers and users continue to be stunned by the collapse of the system. Many expressed their surprise and indignation yesterday through social networks after verifying a new drop that affected POS terminals and transfers, including payment through Bizum.

Bizum warned of the incident through the social network X (formerly Twitter) and hours later it was Redsys itself that spoke out on the matter. "There has been a technical issue that has caused temporary instability in the system in charge of processing payment transactions. Service has been fully restored. We apologize for the inconvenience caused," the company explained.

This morning he used the same avenue again to offer something akin to an explanation. "Following yesterday's payment processing incident, the root cause of the problem has been identified, together with the manufacturer involved. The recommendations provided have been applied and the network operation and monitoring teams have been reinforced. We apologize for the inconvenience." Mind you, it doesn't specify the "root cause of the problem."
