A middle-class household already pays 3,695 euros per year in VAT. The figure represents an increase of just over 400 euros compared to the previous year, that is, compared to 2021 since the data refer to 2022. And almost half of that increase is entirely due to the effect of inflation.

These are the figures provided by the report Impact of inflation on VAT borne by households published yesterday by Funcas, which is signed by Desiderio Romero and in which it also states that "the average VAT tax bill was 2021,2 euros in 592, rising to 2,855 euros in 2022, with an average increase of 263.6 euros". The professor of Applied Economics at the Rey Juan Carlos University refers to the average data of all households.

"As you can see, there are important differences according to the level of household spending. Those located in the first decile, whose average adjusted expenditure is 6,070.6 euros, supported 671.3 euros of VAT in 2022 with an increase of 45.2 euros, "he adds. That is, households with the lowest incomes endured an increase of 45 euros. "On the other hand, households located in the last decile, that is, those with higher incomes and "whose average adjusted expenditure exceeds 62,500 euros", supported 7,256.2 euros in 2022 with an increase of 490.5 euros. The figures at this point are already very relevant. And "for a typical household with an adjusted expenditure similar to the average income existing in Spain in 2022 [32,300 euros]", that is, for that average Spanish family, "the increase is close to 400 euros". From 3,287 to the 3,695 euros mentioned.

The data on the joint effect of inflation in 2021 and 2022 are also very relevant, both years directly affected by the price increase process. "In cumulative terms, the increase in the tax burden due exclusively to inflation has been on average 297.0 euros per household," the document states. But if you look at that average household, and not only the average figure of all deciles, the accumulated reaches 377 euros in the last two years.

The work of the Foundation of savings banks also reviews by communities, and concludes that "the highest accumulated tax burden corresponds to Navarra with 341.8 euros". It is followed by Galicia and the Region of Murcia. "On the contrary, the Canary Islands is the community with the least accumulated collection [240.7 euros]," he adds. The Valencian Community and Catalonia are also among the regions with the lowest data.

On the other hand, also yesterday it was learned that the Provincial Council of Bizkaia will present the corresponding draft foral regulation for the collection of the Tax on Great Fortunes for the year 2023. This was stated by the Biscayan deputy of Finance and Finance, Itxaso Berrojalbiz, as reported by EFE. In the control plenary session held in Gernika, the deputy explained that the draft regional law will be sent to the General Assemblies "with the necessary advance" for it to be approved, and "with the confidence that the support" of EH Bildu and the rest of the groups in the chamber guarantee its application in 2023.

Berrojalbiz thus responded to Iker Casanova, representative of EH Bildu in the chamber and who had conveyed his feeling that those responsible for the foral "are dragging their feet a little" in this matter because "perhaps they do not like this tax too much".
