In order to respond to the so-called "2024 problem" in which there are concerns about labor shortages in the logistics industry, JR East Japan conducted a demonstration experiment to quickly transport large quantities of agricultural products and other products from Nagano Prefecture using the Hokuriku Shinkansen.

This demonstration experiment aims to respond to the so-called "2024 problem" in which truck driver labor shortages are becoming more serious, and JR East Japan aims to build a new logistics system using the Shinkansen that can quickly transport large quantities.

At around 28:7 a.m. on the 750th, about <> boxes of agricultural products such as Shine Muscat and precision machinery were brought to the Shinkansen rolling stock center in Akanuma, Nagano City, and loaded onto parked Hokuriku Shinkansen trains.

In this demonstration experiment, a Shinkansen that does not carry passengers was used, and
▽ how efficiently it can be transported compared to when there are passengers
▽ cargo handling operations were confirmed.

JR East Japan aims to commercialize the business from next fiscal year onward.

Takako Tsutsumiguchi, manager of JR East Japan's Marketing Division, said, "With our previous services that carry customers and luggage at the same time, there were few packages that could be carried, and shipping companies requested mass transportation, so we would like to build this system and contribute to the maintenance of logistics."
