Four companies, including Toho Gas, announced that they will aim to commercialize a technology called "CCS" that captures carbon dioxide emitted from factories and stores it deep underground. The plan is to transport carbon dioxide emitted in the Chubu region to Australia to bury it.

This was jointly announced by Toho Gas, Sumitomo Corporation, Kawasaki Kisen, and Woodside Energy, a major Australian energy company.

According to the report, the four companies aim to commercialize a technology called "CCS" that captures carbon dioxide emitted from factories and stores it deep underground in order to realize a decarbonized society.

Specifically, we plan to capture carbon dioxide from factories in the Chubu region, liquefy it, and transport it to Australia by ship to bury it underground.

According to Toho Gas, the company aims to start operations by 4 with the goal of capturing 100 million to 500 million tons of carbon dioxide per year and storing it underground.

In the Tokai region, Chubu Electric Power also announced in February that it had signed an agreement with a major oil company in the United Kingdom to introduce technology that captures carbon dioxide and buries it underground or reuses it.
