The Japan Archery Federation for the Physically Disabled said that athletes who earned spots in international tournaments such as the World Championships would be selected to represent the Paris Paralympic Games, but in June last year, about two weeks before the World Championships were to be held, The offer was changed after it was decided at this year's domestic selection meeting.
Regarding this, four male para archery athletes filed a petition with the Japan Sports Arbitration Agency to cancel the change, saying, ``This decision is a surprise blow to athletes who had their sights set on the world championship.''
In response, the arbitration body stated, ``It must be said that this is a significant surprise blow that cannot be overlooked for the athletes who have been practicing and making adjustments with the aim of securing a spot in the World Championship.'' We have no choice but to assess that the changes were unreasonable,'' and the changes were canceled.
Regarding this, the Japan Archery Federation for the Physically Disabled said, ``We will abide by the conclusion of the Japan Sports Arbitration Agency.''
