The frigate of the German Navy "Hessen", carrying out tasks to ensure the safety of merchant shipping in the Red Sea, mistakenly tried to shoot down an allied unmanned aerial vehicle.

As RIA Novosti reports with reference to the DPA agency, this was preceded by the frigate’s successful destruction of two drones of the Houthi movement Ansar Allah ruling in northern Yemen.

“A little later, the frigate Gesen unintentionally attacked a drone of an allied country,” the agency quotes the words of the speaker of the German Ministry of Defense, Michael Stempfle.

A representative of the German military department added that the drone was spotted on February 26.

Then the frigate could not identify it and tried to destroy it, but was unable to do so.
