Valencia on Friday morning.

One can only guess that there was a modern residential complex here the day before.

A major fire broke out around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday: At least four people died in the disaster and several were injured.

On Friday morning, the mayor initially spoke of up to 15 missing people.

The complex, which was only completed a few years ago, consists of two blocks of flats with 143 apartments.

In no time it was completely engulfed in flames.

The fire broke out in an apartment on the fourth floor.

Experts explained that the fire was able to spread rapidly due to the facade made of combustible materials and because of strong winds.

Footage shows how firefighters were able to rescue two people from a balcony.

A total of 15 people, including seven firefighters, were taken to hospitals with burns or smoke inhalation.

The deputy head of emergency services said that night that the firefighters were unable to fight the flames from inside the building because of the high heat.

The exact cause of the fire is still unclear.
