This statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a meeting of G20 foreign ministers in Rio de Janeiro.

According to him, the transition to detente during the Cold War allowed the USSR and the USA to lay the foundation for containing military risks and building a reliable strategic security architecture, primarily in Europe.

“We regret that those achievements today have been almost completely destroyed,” the Russian minister said.

Earlier, Lavrov arrived at a meeting of the foreign ministers of the G20 countries in Rio de Janeiro.

Lavrov also called on the G20 countries not to use the economy as a weapon.
