Urbanism Vicente Aleixandre's legendary house goes to judicial auction today
The judicial auction of
Velintonia
, the house in Madrid where the
Nobel Prize winner in Literature Vicente Aleixandre
lived , closed this Monday without any bids being registered, so it has remained deserted.
Aleixandre's heirs had set a starting price of
4,561,750 euros
, although bids were allowed for a minimum of 70% of this figure, that is, 3,193,225 euros.
The house, built in 1930, is located at
number 3 Vicente Aleixandre Street
, in the Vallehermoso neighborhood of the Chamberí district, and is a 630 square meter building distributed over three floors on a 799 m² plot.
The house was declared
an Asset of Heritage Interest
(BIP) in 2022, mainly due to its "symbolic value" as the poet's residence, since for years it hosted meetings and gatherings that were frequently attended by many of his literary contemporaries, such as
Dámaso Alonso, Gerardo Diego, Rafael Alberti or José Hierro
.
Last week, the heirs, the Usera Estirado brothers, had already indicated in a
statement that no public body or administration
had expressed interest in acquiring the property.
For its part, on February 6, the Department of
Culture of the Community of Madrid
reported that it had requested the Ministry of Culture to acquire Aleixandre's house with the commitment to make it a space for cultural activities.
For her part, the second vice president of the Government, Yolanda Díaz, stated that "it would be a source of pride" for
Spain if the central government acquired Velintonia
to prevent it from passing into private hands.
In turn, the Association of Friends of Vicente Aleixandre (AAVA), the main supporter of the conservation of the home,
called not to bid
in the auction to guarantee that it remains in public hands.
