Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow, before a possible visit of Russian leader Vladimir Putin to Armenia, needs certain assurances from the authorities of the republic in connection with joining the International Criminal Court. 

Peskov recalled that, as they said in Moscow, Armenia’s accession to this international statute will negatively affect bilateral relations with Russia.

According to the Kremlin representative, it is very important to receive certain assurances from Armenian partners.

He emphasized that this issue must be resolved within the framework of a bilateral dialogue, and Russia is ready for it.

Armenia officially became a member of the International Criminal Court on February 1.

In March, the ICC issued an “arrest” warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In the summer, ICC judge Tomoko Akane, who issued the warrant, was put on the wanted list by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs under a criminal article.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that no decisions of the ICC matter for Russia, including from a legal point of view. The Kremlin also said that Moscow does not recognize the decision of the International Criminal Court.
