Economist Philipp Sandner is dead

The economist
Philipp Sandner
died unexpectedly at the age of 43.
He was one of the country's leading experts on digital currencies.
The professor of innovation and entrepreneurship founded the Frankfurt School Blockchain Center (FSBC) at the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management in 2017 and has led it since then.
As a member of the FinTechRat and the Digital Finance Forum of the Federal Ministry of Finance, he was a sought-after discussion partner on blockchain and cryptocurrencies in numerous media outlets.
Sandner also wrote a guest article on the digital euro for manager magazin in 2020.
Sandner also sat on the board of directors of the FiveT Fintech Fund and the Blockchain Founders Group, which are active in the area of blockchain start-ups.
Sandner, who was born in Heidelberg, studied business administration and information systems in Mannheim and then conducted research at the Technical University of Munich and the University of California in Berkeley, among others.
In 2015 he became a professor in Frankfurt am Main.

(55) wrote about Sandner's sudden death on the short message service X: “He was a distinguished scientist and blockchain pioneer from the very beginning.
I look back fondly on working with him on the Finance Committee of the German Bundestag.
He will be missed.”
Sandner is said to have died on January 16th.
