The German newspaper "Handelsblatt" for financial and economic news reported on Friday that the German Football Association suffered a financial loss of 4.2 million euros in 2022.

The report revealed that without the special clauses, the loss would have been up to €17.5 million.

Stefan Grünwald, the federation's chief financial officer, said: "It is still a generally acceptable financial result, taking into account the German team's exit from the group stage of the Qatar 2022 World Cup. We are now dealing with a structural deficit."

Grünwald added that if Euro 2024, hosted by Germany next summer, is disappointing for the Manchaft in front of their fans, "we will face a more serious problem."
