Highlights: Putin: The West underestimated Russian banks when imposing sanctions. "Our ill-wishers, apparently, did not expect that the Russian banking sector would go through all the difficulties that are created from the outside in this way," the president said. In September, Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of Russia Olga Polyakova said that the financial regulator had conducted a stress test of banks."They did not take into account, it would seem, elementary things, that a bank is not just a piggy bank where money lies," Putin stressed.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with the head of VTB, Andrei Kostin, said that the West underestimated Russian banks when imposing sanctions, seeing only cash "pigs" in them.

"Our ill-wishers, apparently, did not expect that the Russian banking sector would go through all the difficulties that are created from the outside in this way," the president said.

Accordingly, he commented on Kostin's words about the good condition of VTB, despite the "lawlessness" on the part of the West.

"They did not take into account, it would seem, elementary things, that a bank is not just a piggy bank where money lies, but it is part of the economy. The banking sector reflects the state of the economy as a whole," Putin stressed.

In September, Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of Russia Olga Polyakova said that the financial regulator had conducted a stress test of banks.
