Highlights: Six-year-olds in Västmanland have fewer damaged and repaired teeth now than ten years ago. However, there are still differences between different groups of people in the country. The National Dental Service is working to improve the dental health of children in all parts of the country, especially in the poorest areas of the county. The number of children with poor dental health is on the rise, according to the service, and the number of people with good dental health has also increased.

Six-year-olds in Västmanland have fewer damaged and repaired teeth now than ten years ago. These are targeted interventions that have led to improved dental health, according to the National Dental Service. However, there are still differences between different groups in society.

Among six-year-olds in the group with the weakest dental health, the average number of damaged or already repaired teeth decreased by two percent between 2012 and 2022. This can be compared with the increase of eight per cent in the group as a whole.

According to the Public Dental Service in Västmanland, in addition to the clinics, they work with dental health information in all the county's schools and that children at preschools in exclusion areas receive toothbrushes and toothpaste and help to brush.

In this context, Tandhörnan at Vallby is also mentioned, which is a collaboration between the Public Dental Service of Västmanland and the rest of the health and medical care

"However, there is still a lot to be done because there are still large differences in dental health between different groups in society," says Hannah Al-Wandi, CEO of the Public Dental Service in Västmanland in a press release.
