Viktor Gyökeres praised for solo goal against Belgium

When the national team met with the media today, before the departure to Baku, there was one person who was in the spotlight. Scorching striker Viktor Gyökeres, 25, with his 12 goals in the last 14 games, was praised in unison by his national team colleagues. "He's an unbelievable player," goalkeeper Robin Olsen said.

Viktor Gyökeres produced an impressive solo performance against Belgium, in a match that was later interrupted due to the tragic terrorist attack in Brussels.

Robin Olsen praises the striker for the goal that has been overshadowed.

"That whole action is amazing," Olsen said.

Gyökeres is on a real scoring streak in club team Sporting Lisbon. The latest goal came on Sunday – a great shot in the derby against Benfica.

"He's an unbelievable player with a lot of strength and technique," Olsen said of Gyökeres.

"A good player with the ball, a powerful player with great potential," says Filip Helander.

Laughing at the description

Gyökeres himself laughs when he hears Olsen's description of him as a steamroller and a physical monster.

"It's a funny description, but it's true," says the Lisbon striker, who himself tries to explain why he finds the back of the net most of the time right now.

"I shoot a lot and I have a lot of self-confidence. I've played a lot of football," Gyökeres told SVT Sport.

And the goal production could well continue against Azerbaijan and Estonia.

"The confidence makes me go out and believe that I can score even more goals," says the Hägersten-born national team striker.
