Oberstdorf: Beaver burrows removed – train line open again

In the coming weeks and months, protective nets are to be installed to secure the dam. The damage to a dam has been repaired and the cavities of the beaverburrows have been closed, a spokeswoman for the railway said. The closure between Sonthofen and Oberstdorf meant a replacement bus service was set up.

Travellers and residents can travel to Oberstdorf by train again. Beaver damage had to be eliminated in lengthy repair work.

Oberstdorf can be reached by train again. The tourist resort in the Allgäu had been cut off from rail traffic for several weeks due to damage caused by beaver burrows.

The beaver damage to a dam has been repaired and the cavities of the beaver burrows have been closed, a spokeswoman for the railway said. In the coming weeks and months, protective nets are to be installed to secure the dam.

In mid-October, the damage caused by beavers to a railway embankment was noticed during maintenance work. Due to the closure between Sonthofen and Oberstdorf, the railway set up a replacement bus service.
