Brazil: Federal Judge Uses Artificial Intelligence to Deliver Erroneous Sentence
In Brazil, a judge used artificial intelligence to help him make his decision. As a result, the sentence contained false references and the magistrate had to explain himself. The use of artificial intelligence is reportedly becoming more common in Brazilian courts, but this is the first time a judge has used the technology in sentencing.

However, artificial intelligence writes a sentence riddled with errors. The case law cited and attributed to the High Court of Justice, one of the highest judicial bodies in the country, turns out to be completely false.
And that's where the problem lies. If Jefferson Rodrigues does not notice these inconsistencies or is silent about them, they have been quickly spotted by legal specialists. The magistrate is then obliged to acknowledge the intervention of ChatGPT.
The National Council of Justice, Brazil's judicial watchdog, has now given the judge 15 days to explain his use of the technology. As for what Jefferson Rodrigues is risking, for the moment, the justice system is in limbo, as there is no law governing the use of artificial intelligence in Brazil.
