Yesterday, a young woman died after being hit by a dump truck. The Swedish Work Environment Authority and the police are now investigating the accident site at LKAB in Kiruna. The woman's employer is in crisis management.

The woman, who was in her 20s and living in Jämtland, was on her way to a break when the accident occurred.

The Public Prosecutor's Office is obliged to initiate a preliminary investigation if there is a suspicion that a crime may have been committed. Initially, the charge is negligent homicide, but there are no suspects at this time.

Conversations with psychologists

Affected employees of the woman's employer, a subcontractor to LKAB, have received crisis support and counselling.

"We've had help from Kirunahälsan's psychologists. We have had a lot to talk about and we have gratefully accepted all the help that is available, says the company's CEO.

Hard to take in the accident

The company has about 80 employees, of which about 20 work with transport in LKAB's industrial area. Those who were not present at the time of the accident have returned to their duties.

According to the CEO, it has been difficult to comprehend how the accident could have happened.

"We haven't had much focus on that. It has been to take care of the employees. But now is the time to get on with it," he says.
