This is stated by Östersund District Court in a judgment on Thursday.
The accident occurred late at night on the road between Flykälen and Bredkälen in the municipality of Strömsund in June 2022.
The man in his 50s crashed into a car in front on a paved straight road, after the car in front of him braked suddenly. There is a speed limit of 60 km/h on this stretch of road.
But the district court found that the man had been driving significantly faster than the permitted speed.
The man driving the car in front was killed in the collision.
The District Court convicts the man in his 50s of gross negligence to another's death. He was also convicted of aggravated drunk driving because he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. He was also convicted of reckless driving and driving without a licence, the latter for not having a driving licence.
The convicted person must also pay the deceased's children damages totalling SEK 120,000.
