Highlights: The goal is to increase the use of AI in the public sector. The project is being led by the Swedish National Center for Artificial Intelligence. The aim is to reduce the number of people who need to work with AI. It is hoped that the project will lead to a reduction in the need for human workers in the long-term, as well as a greater use of artificial intelligence in the workplace and public services. The initiative is expected to be completed by the end of the year, and will be funded by Sweden's government.

Researchers around the world are warning about the development of AI. At the same time, a major effort is now being made throughout Sweden with the aim of increasing its use in public administration. "We understand that there is a fear because AI has capabilities that are similar to human capabilities," says Jonatan Permert, Transformation Strategist at AI Sweden.

The gathering of forces is a collaboration between the innovation agency Vinnova and Sweden's National Center for Artificial Intelligence, AI Sweden, and will last for four years. Municipalities and civil society will be helped to understand how AI can be used and be given the opportunity to receive funding and resources.

Part of the answer in the face of a demographic shift

The number of elderly and young people will increase sharply in the coming years, which means greater pressure on, for example, schools and elderly care. For the public sector, it can be a problem that there are not enough people working in relation to how many people need to be supported.

"AI will relieve us of repetitive and time-consuming tasks and free up time for more interpersonal and creative work," says Jonatan Permert.
