Right now, the focus is on the city of Avdiivka on the front line in eastern Ukraine. Here, Russia has launched an aggressive attempt to capture the city, but so far at a high price. "Avdiivka is important for Russia to take if it is to be able to show any kind of success in the area," says SVT's foreign reporter Carl Fridh Kleberg.
The attempt to storm Avdiivka is an important Russian offensive operation, the British Ministry of Defense assesses in an analysis. The heavily defended city stands in the way of Russia's attempts to secure control of Donetsk and ultimately the entire Donbas region.
