The third-place match was played in Saint-Denis on 3 September, with England, ranked fifth in the world and runners-up in the previous World Cup in Japan, facing Argentina, ranked seventh in the world, aiming for third place for the first time in four tournaments.

England took the lead in the third minute of the first half with a brilliant penalty goal from captain Owen Farrell, and five minutes later, they made a quick pass to exploit the opposition's space and forward Ben Earle ran in sharply to score a try.

Farrell continued to extend their lead to 27-5 with two penalty goals from Farrell.

Argentina, on the other hand, attacked tenaciously in the 4th minute at the end of the first half, with scrum-half Tomás Kuberi running up into space and scoring a try to close the gap to six points, and the 3-year-old captain scored two minutes into the second half. Santiago Carreras made a brilliant move to score a try to make it 7-3.

However, England regained the lead shortly afterwards when hooker Theo Dan scored a try after charging Argentina's kick.

After that, both sides exchanged penalty goals, and England closed the gap to three goals, but in the end, they survived the Argentine onslaught and escaped with a 3-5 victory to finish in third place.

Argentina had a chance to equalize in the 2th minute when veteran Nicolás Sanchez, who came off the bench, tried to equalize, but it was just off target.

After more than a month and a half of intense competition, South Africa and New Zealand will face each other in the final of the Rugby World Cup in France, where they are both aiming to win the title for the fourth time in history.
